Welcome to the Bradda Nautical Fiction Pages

They cover nautical fiction set between 1740, the start of Commodore Anson's circumnavigation, and 1815, the year of the final defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo.

Their purpose is to give all lovers of naval fiction a quick reference to the fiction written about the navies of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. The site also includes information on the events that formed a back drop to the adventures of Aubrey, Hornblower, Bolitho, Ramage and the rest of the gang.

The Men of the Merchant Service

"The Men of the Merchant Service" written by Frank T. Bullen in 1901 is a guide to the British Merchant Navy of the late Victorian period aimed at parents who had sons who wished to go to sea. It is now quite (make that very) rare and I thought it worth getting a copy on to the Internet. I am releasing it as I go and can be viewed on the Bradda Blog.

Once complete it will be released as an ebook for all those fancy new ebook readers out there.

Sat, March 06, 2010 New Authors

So far, as well as updating some entries, I have also added the following authors to the database:

There is still a fairly lengthy list of titles to be added!

Sat, March 06, 2010 Nautical Fiction Forum Added

I've added a Nautical Fiction Forum to the forum pages. It is deathly quiet at the moment, so please feel free to join and liven things up.

Mon, March 01, 2010 Forum Added to Site

In advance of some other plans I have for the site and it because I thought it was high time, I have added a forum to the site. Naturally it is very quiet at the moment, but maybe/hopefully it will develop into something.

There are only a couple of forums (fora?) at present, but that can be altered as and when needed.

Feel free to take a look.

Tue, February 09, 2010 New Section Added

I've added a new section, People. I thought that it would be appropriate to mention some of the lesser known people from the period, so you won't find Nelson, Colingwood, Cochrane listed there.

The first one is John Quilliam. He is well known here on the Isle of Man (a bust of him is on display in the garden of Castle Rushen) but probably not too well known elsewhere. Also, I had written about him a few years ago and already had the information in the computer.

Sat, January 30, 2010 Back In Business

After a couple of years gathering dust in the archives, the Broadside Nautical Fiction pages are back. Well, after a fashion, anyway.

It is now a couple of years out of date so there will be quite a few new authors and books to add.

This is part of the continued re-vamp of the Bradda web site as a whole.
